Welcome to the site. "Forgotten Steel" will, eventually, tell the story of the British Commonwealth independent armour brigades of 21st Army Group, who fought in almost every engagement during the Northwest Europe campaign of 1944-1945.
These brigades are largely unknown today, their exploits obscured and forgotten while history focuses on the armoured divisions and the continuing argument around the combat performance of the British Commonwealth forces.
This site has been created primarily as a means of offering some information on these brigades for those who are interested in them, or in armoured warfare generally. It will be very much a work-in-progress site, with material added steadly as more research is carried out into their exploits. These brigades are the subject of a doctoral thesis currently being studied by the webmaster.
If you would like to know more about the brigades or their constituent units, or have information that you wish to share, please send me an email via the "Contact Us" page, or leave a message on the forums. News about the site can be found on the "Blog".
Enjoy the site.
